A MAJOR supermarket will close all 34 stores for two days at Christmas to give staff time to spend with family and friends.

John Lewis confirmed that all stores will be closed on both Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

The majority of the chain’s shops will then trade normal hours between December 27 and New Year’s Eve

But John Lewis is advising shoppers to use the store locator tool on its website to check the opening hours for individual stores.

For example, John Lewis at Manchester’s Trafford Centre will be open on New Year’s Day, while all other shops will be closed.

Waitrose – John Lewis’ sister brand – will also close all its supermarkets on both Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

While most stores pull down the shutters on Christmas Day, there are several brand’s keep the well-deserved break running until December 27.

Aldi will be pulling down the shutters on all of its shops so its staff can spend more time with their families.

The discounter will close on Boxing Day, a day which tends to be pretty busy for shoppers.

This is on top of being shut on Christmas Day, as it is every year.

Not only that but the five soon-to-be-opened Wilko shops, also owned by The Range, are shutting up shop too.

Both retailers will close on December 26 and Christmas Day.
