The new Nectar Prices scheme mimics Tesco’s Clubcard Prices.

Sainsbury’s chief executive Simon Roberts told The Sun the range was “just the beginning”.

Customers will get a third off Heinz Baked Beans, making them 95p from £1.40.

An £8.10 200g jar of Nescafe Gold Blend is cut to £4.

Ariel All-in-1 pods will be £5 instead of £10.50. Sainsbury’s recently cut fresh food prices to the same level as budget rivals under its Aldi Price Match scheme.

Mr Roberts said his chain was raising prices slower than anyone in the market thanks to a £550m investment in value over the past year.

He added: “Nectar Prices will give another reason to shop with us and create confidence for shoppers.”

Food inflation is at a record 18.2 per cent, partly due to vegetable shortages.

But some big grocery brands have raised prices by more than double, leading to tensions between suppliers, supermarkets and customers.

Sainsbury’s bought out Nectar in 2018, after launching it with Debenhams, BP and Barclaycard in 2002.
