Watches with coloured dials, such as the Breitling Navitimer 32 watch modelled by Charlize Theron (pictured) are popular
Women are refusing to risk disappointment at the hands of their partners this Christmas and are buying expensive watches as presents for themselves.
British jeweller Beaverbrooks said sales of ladies’ luxury watches have jumped 11 per cent this year largely due to women with high-flying jobs treating themselves.
Timepieces with coloured dials are proving popular, such as the £6,200 Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra Shades and the £3,650 Breitling Navitimer 32 watch modelled by Charlize Theron.
‘There is a desire to own nice things – if you work hard, you want to treat yourself,’ said Beaverbrooks managing director Anna Blackburn.
Watchmaker Audemars Piguet said it expects the proportion of women buying a watch for themselves rather than receiving it as a gift to rise to 30 per cent by 2025 and 40 per cent by 2030, from 23 per cent in 2022 and 16 per cent in 2021.
