  • WAS THERE A LOTTERY DRAWING LAST NIGHT?

No, neither Powerball nor Mega Millions currently does a Thursday night drawing.

Powerball numbers are drawn every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 11pm EST.

Mega Millions drawings are held on Tuesdays and Fridays at 11:00pm ET.

  • CAN NON-US CITIZENS PLAY?

According to Powerball’s website, the lottery is also open to non-US citizens.

Residents of states in which Powerball is not offered are also open to purchase a ticket in a state where it is available.

  • WHEN DID POWERBALL LAUNCH?

Powerball launched in America in 1992.

It set a world record jackpot of $1.586billion in January 2016.

The record prize was shared by winners in California, Florida, and Tennessee.

  • BIGGEST MULTISTATE LOTTERY

MegaMillions jackpots start at $20million with smaller prizes equaling $1-2million or more with a Megaplier.

The other largest multistate lottery is the Powerball.

The Powerball jackpot also starts at $20million and takes place shortly after 11pm ET on Wednesday and Saturday nights.

  • ABOUT POWERBALL

The Powerball website explains: “The Powerball jackpot grows until it is won. Players select five numbers from 1 to 69; and one Powerball number from 1 to 26.

“Players can multiply non-jackpot prizes by 2, 3, 4, 5 or 10 times with the Power Play® option for an additional $1 per play.

NOTE: The Match 5 + Power Play prize is always $2 million. The 10X multiplier is only in play when the advertised jackpot is $150 million or less.

  • TIPS TO AVOID BEING SCAMMED

    * If you are told that you need to keep your “win” confidential, be suspicious.

    * No real lottery tells winners to put up their own money in order to collect a prize they have already won. If you are asked to pay any kind of fee to collect your winnings, you haven’t won.

    * Just because a real lottery is mentioned does not necessarily make it a real prize. Someone may be using the lottery’s name without its permission or knowledge.

    * Never give out personal information or send money unless you verify the company’s or solicitor’s legitimacy.

    * If they offer to wire the “winnings” directly into your bank account, do not give them your bank account information.

  • CAN I PURCHASE A MEGA MILLIONS TICKET IN ONE STATE AND REDEEM IT IN ANOTHER?

    The simple answer is no.

Mega Millions is sold by individual lotteries, so winning tickets must be redeemed in the state they were purchased in.

However, lotteries usually have a claim-by-mail option for most prizes.

  • POOREST HOUSEHOLDS BUY MOST TICKETS

The Atlantic reported that the poorest third of households buy half of all lotto tickets, according to a 1980s Duke University study.

One reason this happens is because the lottery is advertised more in poorer communities.

  • WHAT IS 2BY2?

The Powerball website describes the game saying, “It’s easy to play. Pick two red numbers between 1 and 26 and two white numbers between 1 and 26, or let the lottery terminal randomly choose your numbers.

    “Each play costs $1.

“Purchase a multi-draw ticket for seven consecutive draws and qualify for the 2by2 Tuesday feature in which all prizes won on Tuesday automatically double in value!”

  • WINNERS STILL WORK

Camelot Group said 48 percent of winners keep their jobs after instantly becoming rich.

  • SIGN YOUR TICKET

Anyone who signs a winning ticket and presents photo ID can claim their prize.

Signing your ticket will prevent anyone from falsely claiming your ticket as theirs.

  • WILL THE IRS BE NOTIFIED IF YOU WIN THE LOTTERY?

The state you won your prize in will be required to notify the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) if you won over $600.

  • WHEN DO POWERBALL DRAWINGS TAKE PLACE?

Powerball drawings take place every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 11pm ET.

  • WINNING DOES NOT CURE DEPRESSION

A research study found that while winning a few million dollars does uplift moods, the happiness is generally short lived.

    The researchers wrote:

“Eventually, the thrill of winning the lottery will itself wear off. If all things are judged by the extent to which they depart from a baseline of past experience, gradually even the most positive events will cease to have impact as they themselves are absorbed into the new baseline against which further events are judged.”

  • FLORIDA MAN WINS $1MILLION, PLANS TO UPGRADE TOOTHBRUSH

One Florida winner disclosed he is very excited to use some of his $1million winnings to purchase an electric toothbrush.

“I’m just looking forward to upgrading to an electric toothbrush and splurging on a good pair of flip flops,” said Brian Nelson.

Nelson opted for a lump sum payment of $795,000, after withholdings, according to Florida lottery officials.

  • HOW DO I KNOW IF I WON MEGA MILLIONS?

Check the Mega Millions website to see if your numbers were drawn.

Your ticket numbers must match all six of the winning numbers in a drawing.
