A longtime Tesla executive who played an important role in developing the company’s advanced driver-assistance system known as Autopilot is leaving the company, in the electric-vehicle maker’s latest high-level departure.

Andrej Karpathy, an artificial intelligence specialist who led a team with the responsibility for refining Autopilot’s functionality, had been on sabbatical for several months.
