LLOYDS Banking Group will shut 20 Lloyds Bank branches and eight Halifax this year.

The banking giant said a fall in customers coming into its branches was the main reason behind the closures.

It means that in total, 309 banks will have shut by the end of 2022, according to the Mirror.

Workers union Unite said 69 workers are affected by the latest closures.

For each branch which will close, there will be a free cash machine or Post Office within one mile so affected customers can still access their cash.

“A Lloyds Banking Group spokesperson said: “It remains true that online and mobile banking continue to grow, as branch usage falls.”
