THERE’S a little-known website where parents can sell old school uniforms and buy ones from as little as 50p.

The cost of living is already making it hard for people and school uniform prices are another blow to parents.

But there are ways families can cut costs on school uniform and one way is by buying secondhand.

Uniformerly is a website that allows parents and schools to buy and sell outgrown school uniform.

It also encourages families to be more sustainable by recycling old, unwanted clothes and purchasing secondhand.

In the last 18 months the platform has helped parents save over half a million pounds on school uniform and it should hit the million pound mark by the end of this summer.

It’s free to use and parents can list items for free – there are no selling fees.

Families who are struggling with high prices can then purchase items secondhand.

The website sells items like socks to blazers to PE kits to shirts.

It also sells things like pencil cases, scarves, wellies, books and winter coats.

Uniformerly items range in price with some starting from as little as 50p while other items could even be free.

Branded items like blazers can be purchased for up to 60% off their original price.

While other items such as football boots can be rented, rather than purchased outright.

After creating an account you’ll be able to search for items using words like the name of your child’s school.

Shoppers can also set alerts so they’ll be the first to hear when an item they’re after is added to the marketplace.

Parents save on postage too – because everything’s local, they can arrange collection in person at school pick up or drop off, or have the item delivered to their door.

Here’s a list of items shoppers could get on Uniformerly and how much they could save:

  • School logo jumper £2, originally £9.25 – saving £7.25
  • Logo Blazer £3, originally £27 – saving £24
  • Skirt £1, originally £14 – saving £13
  • Logo sports Fleece £2, originally £13.50 – saving £11.50
  • Logo Sweatshirt £1, originally £12.25 – saving £11.25
  • PE Polo shirt £1, originally £9.50 – saving £8.50
  • Girls summer dress £1.50, originally £12.95 – saving £11.45

If you’ve purchased an item from Uniformerly but your child has outgrown it, you can also sell it back to the website.

You’ll then earn cash back which you can use on your next purchase.

Most parents know how to shop around for a good deal especially when it comes to school uniforms as most retailers now have a back-to-school offering.

If you can’t find what you’re looking for using Uniformly, there are alternatives.

It all depends on what you are looking for in terms of quality and also what your budget is.

Most retailers have a back-to-school offering so it is worth comparing prices before making a decision.

For example, Marks and Spencer is offering 20% off school uniform and kids’ clothes.

The retailer is giving an incentive to families who buy their back-to-school items early and also donate their pre-loved clothing.

It could also be beneficial to visit the stores rather than buying online to be able to see and feel what you are getting for your money.

Last year we compiled a list of some of the best places for buying cheap school uniforms and found that supermarkets were a great place to start.
