YOU can instantly upgrade your Netflix account to a special profile with bonus features.

It’s a way to get access to experimental Netflix tricks, hacks, and perks before your friends and family.

The feature is called Test Participation, and is designed as a way for Netflix to trial app changes.

Like other tech giants, Netflix generally prefers to test updates on a few people before rolling them out to everyone.

It can reveal whether a change needs to be tweaked – or even scrapped entirely – before it lands on everyone’s machines.

You can sign up to be part of these trials if you know where to look.

How to sign up for Netflix Test Participation

Typically accounts will automatically be opted in to Test Participation.

To make sure you’re signed up, go to the Netflix website in your web browser.

Now go to your profile picture and navigate to Account > Settings.

Then choose Test Participation and make sure the box is toggled.

“Participate in tests to help improve the Netflix experience and see potential changes before they are available to all members,” said Netflix.

Of course it’s possible that you might not want to have new features trialled on you.

So make sure the box is unchecked if that’s the case.

You can also separately sign up to the Netflix Android app beta test here.

What does Test Participation unlock?

It’s impossible to say exactly what will be unlocked for your account if you try out Test Participation.

You might get access to some features that other people don’t.

But there are some changes that have previously been trialled in Test Participation that might give you an idea about what to expect.

For instance, the Fast Laughs short video feed was trialled via Test Participation.

You might also see different tile sizes, or alternative text on buttons.

Netflix also trialled the Skip Intro button with Test Participation.

In any case, not everything you see might make it to the full version of the app.

“Only a small percentage of our ideas turn out to be winners in A/B tests,” Netflix said.

“That’s right: despite our broad expertise, our members let us know, through their actions in A/B tests, that most of our ideas do not improve the service.

“We build and test hundreds of product variants each year, but only a small percentage end up in production and rolled out to the more than 200 million Netflix members around the world.”
