Lidl’s McDonald’s copycat chicken nuggets are back – and they’re more than half the price

The nuggs are part of the supermarket’s limited edition flavour of the USA range, which landed in shops on Thursday.

There are 12 chicken bites per 300g box and they even come with two dips, similar to the ones served at McDonald’s, curry and sweet and sour.

At £1.69 a box, they’re cheaper than the snacks from McDonald’s too.

While prices vary depending on the branch, a box of six McNuggets costs £3.19, while nine pieces of chicken will set you back £3.39, according to Burgerlad.

To get the same amount of nuggets you’d need to buy two boxes of six from McDonald’s, which works out £6.98 in total, or 58p per chicken piece.

At Lidl, it works out at just 14p per nugget, up to four times cheaper than at McDonald’s.

Of course, they’re not really like-for-like products, even though they come in similar packaging.

You’ll have to cook the Lidl nuggs yourself as they’re frozen, something you don’t have to do when you order from McDonald’s.

And we’ve not tried them ourselves so we can’t say whether they actually taste the same either.

But they’ve got bargain hunters excited on the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK Facebook page, where one person wrote: “These taste better than McDonald’s.

“I was very surprised and so were the family. Will definitely buy again.”

In two days, the post has gathered over 1,000 likes and more than 2,400 comments.

It’s worth noting through that you can actually save money on chicken nuggets by opting for a value bag.

For example, a 670g bag of 38 breaded nuggets will set you back just £2.10 from Asda giving you better value for money.

It’s not the first time the discounter has stocked them. Shoppers could last pick them up from stores in July 2020.

Other items in the taste of the USA range at Lidl include a box of corn dogs for £3.99, tubs of marshmallow fluff for £1.49 and jars of Smucker’s Goober grape peanut butter and jelly for £2.99.

Lidl don’t offer a home delivery service so you’ll need to head to your nearest store if you want to get your hands on them.

Supermarkets are allowed to stay open throughout the coronavirus lockdown because they are essential to allow Brits to pick up groceries.

However, some may be operating reduced opening hours so it’s worth using the store locator tool to find out when it’s good to shop before heading out.

The Sun has contacted McDonald’s for comment.
