The summer bank holiday in England, Wales and Northern Ireland is on Monday August 30.

Scotland already had its summer bank holiday on August 2.

It is a public holiday so banks and schools are shut and many people have the day off work.

But Lidl will still be open if you need to pick up some essentials or just want to browse its middle aisle.

When is Lidl open over the August Bank Holiday weekend?

Lidl’s normal operating hours are 8am to 10pm most days and in most stores across the UK.

Use its store locator to check the opening times of your nearest Lidl but most will be open between 8am and 10pm on Saturday (August 28).

Its stores are usually open from 10am to 4pm on a Sunday and most are sticking to that schedule on August 29.

Lidl stores are open on Bank Holiday Monday (August 30) from 8am to 10pm.

Some stores, such as its Tottenham Court Road location in London are opening earlier at 6am and close at 11pm.

Check the opening times of your nearest store on the Lidl website before travelling.

Is Lidl delivering over the Bank Holiday?

Lidl doesn’t offer home delivery.

You can browse some of its featured items on the store’s website but it doesn’t have a stock checking system online.

So you’ll have to make the trip to the shops if you want to nab some bargains over the bank holiday weekend.

When are the bank holiday dates for 2021?

The summer bank holiday is the last one before Christmas.

These are the bank holiday dates in England and Wales for this year:

  • Monday, May 31 (Spring Bank Holiday)
  • Monday, August 30 (Summer Bank Holiday)
  • Saturday, December 25 (Christmas Day)
  • Sunday, December 26 (Boxing Day)

Dates in Scotland and Northern Ireland vary.

What is a bank holiday?

A bank holiday is a public holiday in the UK when most people are given an extra day off work.

They were given the name bank holidays as banks are closed – and if they can’t do business, no-one else can.

Similarly, schools are shut on bank holidays and transport services are often scaled back.

Booking certain days off work can help your holiday allowance stretch further.
