LIDL is adding an extra reward to its loyalty scheme.

The new perk means sweet-toothed shoppers can get FREE food in-store.

When you spend £50 at the store over the course of one month, you’ll be rewarded with a coupon for a Lidl bakery item.

That could mean claiming a free pretzel or cookie, usually worth 39p each, all the way to a slice of pizza, usually worth 69p.

It rolls out on March 1, so you’ll have from then to start totting up your supermarket spends.

If you manage to rack up the £50 amount, you’ll find the coupon pops up automatically in your free Lidl Plus account.

Lidl Plus is a virtual rewards card that you have to download Lidl’s free app to claim.

The Plus card app lets you unlock money-off coupons when you reach your spending targets each month, and is a great way to save on Lidl’s already low prices.

Once this coupon pops up though, you only have seven days to use it, so you’ll need to be quick.

What you can use it on will be subject to the availability of products at your local store too.

And you can’t use it online either, as Lidl doesn’t offer deliveries, so you will have to venture out to your closest Lidl store – use its locator tool to find out where that is.

The good news is you don’t have to spend the total £50 in one go.

It’s much like the existing £2 and £10 coupons that you can earn already.

The coupons are designed to reward you for every time you spend, so you could complete a few smaller shops before the month ends and still be in with the chance of earning the freebie.

It takes a bit of spending at the budget supermarket, but if you fork out £100 at Lidl over the space of a month, you will be rewarded with £2 back.

While spending double that in the same amount of time, £200 in a month, means you earn a coupon for £10 back.

The new reward too, will be automatically added to the coupons section in your app when your spend reaches £50 in a month, so that you can redeem a bakery item of your choice on your next shop.

You’ll only be able to claim the one item, and it means starting your spend count all over again the next month to claim another, or claim one of the money-off vouchers.

It’s not the only time you can claim freebies from the discount store though – as on your birthday you can get a free cookie worth 39p too.
