Adidas has been inundated with orders for Yeezy shoes following the end of its ill-fated partnership with Kanye West.

The German sportswear giant stopped selling the products in October after the rapper – who is now known as Ye – made a series of antisemitic comments.

But the company has put the shoes back on the market because destroying them would have cost it hundreds of millions.

Adidas has now received orders worth more than £440m for 4m pairs of the trainers, better than its most optimistic forecast, according to the Financial Times.

Adidas said it now expects to make an operating loss of £390m this year – far better than the £600m it was previously expecting.

The company had said in May it would donate some of the proceeds from the sales to organisations fighting antisemitism and racism.

Discussions over how much will be donated to individual charities are ongoing, the FT reported, adding that the company has chosen five charities in the US and China as a first step.
