Who Is John Wayne Gacy?
From Chicago, Illinois, John Wayne Gacy was a serial murderer who operated in the 1970s.
Between 1972 and 1978, Gacy killed at least 33 young men and boys; the death of 15-year-old Robert Piest set off the inquiry that resulted in Gacy’s capture.
While some of the dead were buried elsewhere on his property or dumped in the Des Plaines River, police found 26 bodies buried in a crawl space beneath his home.
Gacy was found guilty and given the death penalty in March 1980 after a month-long trial. His execution was initially scheduled for June 1980.
In the years following his trial, Gacy sought a number of appeals, which led to the postponement of his execution until May 10, 1994.
Jeffery Dahmer Series Revisits His Death
The stories of Dahmer and Gacy cross over in episode 10 of Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story because significant incidents involving both serial murderers happened on the same day.
While Gacy was put to death 180 miles away at the Stateville Correctional Center in Illinois on May 10, 1994, Dahmer sought forgiveness from God by becoming baptized.
A solar eclipse that was visible over most of North America was also noted, adding to the date’s supernatural significance.

According to sources, John Wayne Gacy’s last words were “Kiss my ass.”
The Netflix drama reflects actual events since Gacy is given the chance to record his last words during the execution sequence in episode 10.
Gacy, however, used the opportunity to disparage those in attendance rather than express regret for his atrocities.
However, the Netflix series makes certain artistic licenses when it depicts Dahmer’s baptism and Gacy’s execution as occurring simultaneously whereas, in reality, Gacy’s demise was announced in the wee hours of the morning at 12:58.
