What is Wowcher?

Wowcher describes itself as a “deal a day” site that “uses the power of group buying or bulk buying to get unbeatable deals on the best stuff to do, see, visit, eat and buy in a variety of cities in the UK“.

The company aims to make luxurious experiences more affordable and accessible.

It offers deals on restaurants, concerts, events, lessons, tours, spas, salons, retail shops, and more.

Shoppers can filter the website by its categories; shopping, travel, home, electronics, spa days, fitness, kids, fashion and gifts.

They can also browse the deals depending on which city they are in.

Wowcher sells its customers vouchers – or “Wowchers” – which are then redeemed at the individual businesses who have offered the deals to Wowcher.

According to Wowcher’s website, businesses do not pay up front to participate and the amount that they receive for any Wowchers redeemed at their business is negotiated with Wowcher.

Most deals are delivered to customers digitally and arrive by email but some may also come through the post.

Wowcher has also become known for its “mystery deals”.

These see customers pay a fixed fee for a range of unseen gifts, with some mystery boxes including beauty products and others holding household products.

The website also offers mystery holidays, giving travellers the chance to score a trip to an unknown location, with a hotel stay and return flights from £99pp.

The mystery holiday could be to one of 100 locations, with past trips including the Maldives, Bali, Mexico, New York, Iceland Northern Lights, Spain, Greece and Italy.

When was Wowcher created?

Wowcher was founded in 2009 by Nicholas Brummitt.

Two years later, in 2011, it was bought by DMG Media.

Roland Bryan has been the CEO since 2011.

In 2019 it was reported that Wowcher had a turnover of £155m from around 21m subscribers in the UK.

It is thought that the company employs around 320 people.

Is Wowcher a legitimate website?

Like with other sites such as European clothing retailer Zalando, the great deals advertised on Wowcher have led potential customers to question if the website is legitimate.

Luckily for those wanting to snap up one of the offers, Wowcher is indeed legit.

The company has pledged to only ever offer a deal on something they would buy themselves.

Their website states: “We believe in honesty and so a great price isn’t everything – it’s also got to be a great product or service.

“We have top business partners and unbeatable prices, so you should feel comfortable venturing out and trying something new simply because we have featured it as a Wowcher”.

If the rare instance that the company you have bought a Wowcher for does not deliver occurs, you will be able to claim a refund from Wowcher.

Wowcher’s website is secure and uses SSL encryption technology to ensure the safety of customer personal and financial information.

Is the Wowcher app safe?

The Wowcher app is safe and has received positive reviews from customers who have used it.

On the Apple Store it has a score of 3.7/5 stars, and on Google Play a rating of 4.5/5.

Why are products on Wowcher so cheap?

Wowcher is able to offer great deals on experiences and products as they bulk buy them before selling them onto customers.
