Christmas Day falls on a Sunday this year, meaning there is an extra bank holiday on the following Tuesday, December 27.

This is on top of the usual Boxing Day bank holiday on Monday, December 26.

But the festivities don’t even there, as there is also a bank holiday on January 2, 2023, with New Year‘s Day also falling on a Sunday.

Is the Post Office open over the Christmas and New Year Bank Holidays?

The majority of Post Offices across the country will be closed on Christmas Day.

But some services located within convenience stores may still be open.

Some branches will also remain closed on Boxing Day.

That way you avoid the hassle of going all the way to the Post Office only to find it closed.

Selected branches will reopen on Tuesday, December 27 and Wednesday, December 28 – but there will be no collections or deliveries.

The Post Office said normal service will resume on Thursday, December 29.

Most Post Offices will then closed again on New Year’s Day and Monday, January 2.

Customers can check if their local branch is open and for what hours on the Post Office website.

Can I send mail over the Christmas and New Year Bank Holiday?

You can post it in a letter box but it will not be collected until normal working hours resume.

If you check out your nearest post box, it should indicate on which date the next collection will be made.

Are shops closed on the Bank Holiday?

The majority of retailers have confirmed the days people will be able to shop in their stores over the Christmas period.

Most shops and supermarkets will be closed for certain days in order to give staff some much-needed time off.

Almost all stores across the UK are shut on Christmas Day, but there are also a handful of retailers that won’t open on Boxing Day either.

Opening hours can vary from branch to branch, so check your local store times before you make the trip.
