IPHONE users have claimed that Apple’s recent iOS software has ‘broken’ the beloved keyboard.

Hundreds of users thought they had been dealing with hand-eye coordination issues, and even dementia, but it turns out they’re not alone.

On Threads and Twitter, iPhone users have voiced their woes over using the iOS keyboard in recent months, with some saying it has become “unusable”.

Typing has grown much harder in recent updates, according to users, including the newest iOS 16 which was released last year.

“I also thought I was the only one,” one user tweeted.

“Not only has autocorrect stopped working right, it also feels like the sensitivity and touch radius of the keys has changed somehow? As has the responsiveness and the cursor movement?

“The entire experience of typing on iOS has become a slog.”

iPhone users have been wrestling with the “bizarrely aggressive” autocorrect feature, which was once one of Apple’s prized features due to how effective is was at anticipating what it’s users were going to type.

“‘Well’ vs. ‘we’ll’ kills me on a daily basis (even to post this!) No, I am not writing “we’ll” 30 times a day,” an iPhone owner complained on Twitter.

Another tweeted: “I have to type ‘of’ three times to get it to stop changing to ‘if’.”

The keyboard also used to have a better memory when it came to remembering its users’ frequently used acronyms, according to users.

“I feel like I’ve been making 10x more typos, that normally autocorrect would save,” said another.

“I thought it was either a) my screen protector, or that b) I was losing manual dexterity for some reason,” another added.

One iPhone owner claimed that this has been a slow, quiet decline in the decade since iOS 7 was released.

“The iOS keyboard has been awful since iOS 7 and gets worse with every update,” according to one Apple fan.

“Meanwhile I have an old iPod Touch I haven’t updated since 2012 and even on its tiny screen I can type flawlessly, so I know I’m not misremembering how good it used to be.”

But others are firm in their belief that the iOS keyboard used to be much smarter and easier to use than it is today.

So, how can you fix it?

Well, you can either patiently await iOS 17 which is due to land sometime around September.

Or, tech savvy iPhone users have suggested turning off autocorrect in Settings to get the keyboard into a “sort of usable state”.

To do this, open Settings > General > Keyboard on your iPhone or iPad and turn off the toggle for Auto-Correction.

Alternatively, you can try using voice dictation on iPhone and outsource the physical act of typing altogether.

“You can also use typing and Dictation together—the keyboard stays open during Dictation so you can easily switch between voice and touch to enter text,” according to Apple.

To access it, tap the microphone in the bottom right hand corner of the keyboard and start speaking.

However, it’s important to note that this feature is only available on supported models.

This includes the iPhone SE 2nd generation and all handsets that came later.
