REPLACING an iPhone 13 display could permanently disable your Face ID unless you go through Apple.
The tech giant has made a strict product repair decision that means a third-party screen replacement won’t allow Face ID.
Apple is known for trying to deter potential third-party repair ventures.
However, disabling Face ID unless you can repair through an official Apple contractor is a more extreme case.
The issue was discovered by Phone Repair Guru.
In a YouTube video, the tech experts demonstrates how swapping an official iPhone 13 screen for a non official one will disable Face ID.
This was not the case for other iPhones, such as the iPhone 12 series.
A none genuine screen replacement will also result in an notification from Apple warning you that the screen is not official.
The narrator of the video explains: “You might be wondering what this means. It’s bad.
“This is really really bad. Basically any time you get a screen replacement, FaceID will be gone.
“You don’t have to break anything. Nothing has to go wrong. That’s just how it is.”
There are apparently ways around the issue, including transferring more chips from one screen to another.
Apple may also issue a fix for this issue in the future.
If not, it’s best to go to an Apple store or an Apple authorised repair shop for any screen replacements on the new iPhone 13 range.
