Intel Corp. is planning fundamental changes to computer-chip manufacturing to meet its net-zero goal.

The Santa Clara, Calif.-based semiconductor maker said Wednesday that it aims to reach net-zero greenhouse-gas emissions across its direct operations by 2040. Its factories, which pump out chips using processes that use potent climate-warming gases, are a big challenge.
