I’m Greggs’ top boss – the secret menu items you only get in certain locations and how to find them

GREGGS’ top boss has revealed they have a secret menu loaded with delicious treats, but you can only get them in certain locations.

The menu is revealed tonight in a documentary on Channel 5 that takes a look behind the scenes of the UK’s largest bakery chain.

The documentary titled Greggs: Secrets of their best bakes, airs tonight at 8pm and sees Grace Dent take a deep dive into the workings of the bakery giant that has more than 2,000 stores nationwide.

But it might come as a surprise to some fans that not all stores are made equal when it comes to its pastry offerings.

While you can pick up a sausage roll from any of the fast-food branches there are some snacks that are only available in certain regions.

Roisin Currie, Chief executive officer of Greggs said the reason for the regional differences is simply that some items “just don’t work” in other parts of the country.

This is because that’s typically the location where they were traditionally made and there is still a demand for shoppers wanting to get their hands on them.

They include items such as a corned beef pasty, a Tottenham cake, and a stottie, which if you do not live in the North East you might not even be familiar with.

Fear not as we have the full list of Greggs secret menu items, what they are, and where you will find them.

Apple Danish – South East, Scotland, West

This tasty-looking apple Danish looks very tempting but you will only be able to find them in the South East, Scotland and the West.

Stotties – North East

This is a stottie filled with ham and please pudding

Stotties are a type of large springy bread roll that’s traditionally stuffed with ham and pease pudding and are only available in the North East of England.

Fans of the stottie suggest that you can typically get your hands on one in and around Newcastle.

This item was trialled in a handful of stores down South in 2013, and the bakery chain even asked its Twitter followers if they thought the stottie should head South for good – but it wasn’t a success.

Corned beef pasty – Leeds, North East Wales, and West

If you’re up north, in Wales, or down in the west country you can get your hands on a pasty stuffed with corned beef.

If not, then you are out of luck I am afraid.

Tottenham cake – South East

This delicious-looking cake is only available in the South East

Only those who live in the South East can get their hands on a Tottenham Cake from Greggs.

This is a light sponge tray bake with raspberry and coconut icing on the top.

It is reportedly called a Tottenham cake because it was first created in Tottenham in north London by a Quaker in the 1800s as a cheap treat for local children.

Bread and butter pudding – South

This stodgy treat only resides in the south

Some Greggs stores sell slices of bread and butter pudding – a dessert usually made from leftover bread which is then sometimes filled with various fruits and nuts.

But you can only get your hands on these in the South of England.

Cheese scone – North East

Another favorite in the North East is the cheese scone

Everyone loves a cheese scone but sadly you can only pick up these up in Greggs stores in the North East.

Empire biscuits – North East and Scotland

Sadly for Southerners this pretty biscuit is only in the North East and in Scotland

Empire biscuits are two layers of biscuit sandwiched with jam and topped with icing and a glace cherry on top.

But you’ll have to up north to try them as they’re only in stores in the North East and in Scotland.

French Fancy – Scotland

Greggs sells French Fancies topped with yellow and white icing in its Scottish stores but you can’t get them anywhere else in the UK.

London cheesecake

While they look like savoury pasties with grated cheese on top – and nothing like an actual cheesecake – these are actually a sweet item usually filled with jam and an almond paste.

But you can only get them in the south of England.

Peach melbas – North East

It seems you can only get a peach melba in the north east

Another treat only available to those in the North East of England is the peach melba where the classic pudding is covered with pastry and filled with cream.
