A SHOP is handing out FREE bottles of Prime Hydration despite other newsagents charging £20 for the energy drinks – but there’s a catch.

Some customers are even willing to pay £80 per bottle, but one shop has decided to give them away for free, in return for a small favour.

Sweets 4 U, a shop based in Solihull’s Touchwood centre, is giving away the popular drink for free to lucky customers.

Bobby Singh, co-owner of the convenience store, is offering two freebies a week to the customer who tags the most friends on his shop’s Instagram page.

He told Birmingham Mail: “We get all sorts of money from adults and children, some people want to buy it for their grandchildren.

“One kid offered £80 three times for a Prime drink, kids are just badgering for it.

KSI says Asda workers are selling Prime drink on black market

“I heard students at a nearby school were charging £1 a sip. I think the reason it is popular is because KSI and Logan Paul are behind it, also they just like having it in hand. If it was a normal drink no one would care.”

The 42-year-old also claimed children are buying bottles purely to take pictures with them for status.

Prime hydration has created a social media frenzy amongst youngsters following the launch of the brand earlier this year by YouTubers KSI and Logan Paul.

Despite a retail price of only £2, Millie Hazelgrave travelled from Castleford to buy six bottles of Prime from a West Yorkshire newsagents, Wakey Wines, which cost her £145.

In Worcester, Ameer, who runs a Nisa Local is charging £15 per bottle.

He said: “Nobody has complained about the price.

“People leave their phone numbers with me so I can let them know we have some in stock.”

While others are shifting the ultra-in-demand 500ml drink on eBay for a ridiculous £10,000 just for one bottle.

One landlord has even begun to accept the energy drink as currency because of how much people are willing to spend on it.

Craig Harker, 35, says bottles of Prime Hydration are rarer than “gold or diamonds” at the moment.

The landlord of The George Pub and Grill chain is accepting the pop following a social media craze that’s seen youngsters fighting each other for bottles before flogging them online for £25 each.

“It’s absolutely nuts. I haven’t seen a craze like this probably since the PlayStation came out,” Craig added.

The 500ml drink – which comes in 11 flavours – has a retail price of only £2 and can be bought at Asda.

But demand for the product has seen shops introducing buying limits on the drink and security rolled out to break up fights between thirsty youngsters.

However, creator KSI doesn’t agree with how his product is being sold and told fans: “You’re getting ripped off. Come on man this is outrageous — don’t pay that much.”
