AN EXPERT plumber has slammed an “energy slashing” gadget loved by Brits as he thinks it’s a waste of money and doesn’t work.

Owners of the item were left stunned by the comment as they thought the gadget was a bargain as it can cost as little as £15 – and is a essential product in most homes.

The tip which was shared by The Chartered Institute Of Plumbing and Heating Engineering (CIPHE) and is one of 26 they’ve given to help cut energy use amidst the cost of living crisis.

It instructs: “Don’t use electric fan heaters. It will cost you several times the money to heat a room via a fan heater than it will via a central heating system.”

Other surprising tips on the list include turning off appliances like TVs rather than leaving them on standby and buying a new boiler.

The site said: “If your boiler is reaching the end of its working life, take the plunge and replace it.

“Modern day boilers are highly efficient, so although initially costly, an efficient model can save £££’s on your heating bills.”

It also said that changing your shower head for a more efficient one can “save both the water and the energy you use to heat it”.

These are not the only money saving tips to make the news recently.

The host responded by explaining that “Sunday peak” save is a “optional tariff”, and therefore you have to opt in to gain the benefits.
