Speaking on TikTok, former Apple worker Tyler Morgan, shared his secrets about updating iOS.

“Yes it will, if you did not know, iOS 17 or any new iOS really will slow down older phones,” he said in a video posted on his account @hitomidocameraroll.

“iOS 17 is designed specifically for the iPhone 15 so it is obviously most compatible with the 15.

“It will be fine with the 14, but you will start noticing it with the 13, and it just goes down from there.

“Is it a necessary thing? Absolutely not, this is something that Apple has done for pretty much the entirety of the iPhone after the iPhone 4.

“Don’t get me wrong, it’s not unrunnable, you can run iOS 17 on your iPhone XS, you’re just not going to get the full experience that they’re advertising in the videos and pictures.

“You’re going to get a very laggy problematic version of that.

“The biggest thing most people will realise, your battery is going to die hard, more than slowing down your phone I would be more concerned with your battery.”

He added you could have to charge your phone to 100 per cent four times a day, or every three hours.

The tech expert explained his rule of thumb.

“If you’re happy with your overall experience on whatever update you’re on leave it alone.

“You can still get security updates without updating iOS to a degree.

“If you update your phone all the time and you’re one of those people, you’re gonna need to get a new phone every three years.”

This comes as Apple fans were excited to hear about a brand-new iPhone release.

The iPhone 15 and 15 Pro just hit the market, but the iPhone 16 could be revealed in less than a year.

Meanwhile iPhone users were recently urged to switch off one setting to help them avoid “vampire battery drain”.

Plus, there is a secret ‘hand signal’ to unlock a hidden feature in your FaceTime app.
