WETHERSPOONS is one of the most popular boozers in the UK, loved for its cheap pints and food – but is everything worth your money?

Most high streets in the UK are home to a branch of Wetherspoons.

The chain has over 800 pubs across the country and employs more than 42,000 people.

But despite this, lots of people still might still be unsure of how to spot the best deals and those that might not be worth your cash.

It comes as drinkers are being warned that the price of a pint of beer could soon soar to almost £7.

With this in mind, it’s more important than ever that fans know they’ve got the best value for their money.

We spoke to Will Pointing, who runs the lifestyle and money-saving blog greatdealsmadeeasy.com, to find out what you should be buying at Wetherspoons.

Plus, Will shared which items to avoid.

Meal deals

Wetherspoons is known for its meal deal offers that run all week long.

These include Tuesday’s Steak Club, the Thursday Curry Club and Fish Friday.

Will said: “My tip would be to go for meal deals with a drink included.

“A meal is a big money saver. For example, a standard curry club meal with an alcoholic drink is between £8.55 and £9.19.

“It’s very hard to find a meal in a UK city that beats that price.”

He said outside of the meal deal, you would expect to pay an additional two for the same meal.

Healthy food

It might come as a surprise, but Will says that Spoons is the place to visit if you want a cheap and healthy meal.

He said: “If you are on a calorie controlled diet and you’re watching your pennies, there are healthy options.

“You can buy a healthy Mediterranean salad with a soft drink for £7.96.”

For example, you would expect to pay £13.95 for a salad at Pizza Express and £9.25 at Nando’s – neither of which comes with a drink.

Hot drinks

You can enjoy bottomless brews all day in participating Wetherspoons pubs by buying one hot drink.

The offer includes Tetley tea and a range of Lavazza coffee including a flat white, latte, cappuccino, and Americano.

Prices start from just 99p but they can vary depending on your location.

Will said: “This is valid on any of the drinks available on the self-service machines, from a cup of tea to a flat white coffee.”

It comes as coffee fans were left fuming after Costa Coffee slapped an extra 18% on some pour-it-yourself hot drink prices – just months after a previous hike.

What items should I avoid?

Wetherspoons breakfast is reasonably priced, with a traditional full English coming in at under £5.

But Will said the quality of the food isn’t always up to scratch.

He said: “If you’re a fresh runny egg fan, their breakfast contains poached eggs which are pre-poached, so sometimes they aren’t as runny as one would want.”

Will also said you’re probably best visiting your local fish and chip shop for a chippie tea as opposed to Wetherspoons.

” At Wetherspoons, a bowl of chips is £4.03 and 964 calories,” he added.

“They are not as high quality as the ones you get at a fish and chip shop.”

Plus, people are only just realising why Wetherspoons prices are so cheap – and it’s NOT beer going out of date.
