And some are turning to side hustles, a way of making cash outside a 9-5 job.

One woman revealed five easy side hustles you can start without any upfront costs, while another in the USA has made thousands of dollars from printing.

Now, one mum has shared how using the app Fiverr has seen her rake in an extra £300 a month.

Fiverr is an online marketplace app where freelancers can offer up their services for a fee.

Meredith, 45, told The Express, she has drawn on her love for fictional books to offer freelance story critiques on the app, which she found out about through her husband.

She said: “I already work part-time for his businesses as well as running the house and being around for the kids when they are home from school.

“We needed something that would fit in around this and therefore not require childcare.

“I was hesitant at first as I don’t have any official writing or editing credentials to my name, but when I looked at who was offering similar services on Fiverr I realised that I had more than enough skill and experience to be able to offer a good service to people.”

Meredith said it was “reassuring” she could bring extra cash during her spare time, particularly as the cost of living has put “a lot of pressure” on her family.

She explained how she also now shops at Aldi because it’s cheaper, and her children have stopped going to as many after-school activities to save money as well.
