David Cushing and David Stewart, from the University of Manchester, have figured out there are less than 30 sequences of numbers that are certain to bring in cash.

From the list of digits they’ve said you should pick from, at least two of your numbers will be drawn every time – but only when buying the 27 tickets, they predict.

Some of the sequences are 09, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, and 32, 33, 34, 35, 40, 41 and 20, 21, 24, 25, 30, 31.

Each ticket on the standard lottery costs £2 and players choose six numbers from 1 to 59.

The same amount of numbers are then randomly drawn and prizes are awarded for tickets that have two or more matching.

Whilst it may seem like a sure-fire way to win big, there is a slight catch.

If you only match two digits on one ticket – you have 26 with no wins.

That means you could potentially only take home the amount you paid for that one ticket – leaving you £52 down.

And if you get into a routine of spending £54 a week for all of the tickets and rarely winning the jackpot, it’s not going to be worth it.
