Iceland’s offering costs just £1.89 for a box of six, while Tesco and Co-op’s similar sized mince pies are £2.

Earning a coveted Best Buy award for the second year running, Iceland’s mince pies were commended for their zesty taste, according to Which?.

Yuzu juice and cider joined usual ingredients port, brandy and assorted vine fruits.

It is another win for one of the less expensive mince pies on the market, which defeated pricier rivals.

Tesco’s mince pies were celebrated for their strong mince filling, while Co-op’s stellar offering was described as “packing plenty of festive flair”.

They defeated Marks and Spencer’s Collection Mince Pies (£2.50 for six) and Morrisons’ The Best Deep Filled Mince Pies (£2 for six), which were also complimented by the judges.

Efforts by Sainsbury’s (£2 for six) and Aldi (£1.49 for six), however, left a poor taste.

The respected Which? ranking was conducted by 66 demographically representative consumers who regularly eat mince pies.

The magazine’s home products and services editor Lisa Barber said: “For many of us, mince pies are the taste of Christmas.

“Our panel of enthusiasts have tasted pies from the biggest supermarkets in the UK to find out which ones will make the holiday season extra festive this year.

“Iceland has triumphed for the second year in a row but competition was tight between the top contenders in our blind tests, and there is a bigger than ever range of Best Buy pies at affordable prices this year.”
