A DAD was shocked when his Amazon package arrived in a box bigger than his front door.
Simon Lewis purchased the Spear & Jackson Razorsharp Telescopic Tree Pruner for £30.
The multi-use tool measures just 2ft 1in (65cm) and includes an extendable handle.
It therefore came as a shock when the product arrived in a 6ft (183cm) by 4ft (122cm) cardboard package – and was unable to fit through his front door in Morecambe, Lancashire.
The dad-of-three said: “I didn’t think I would need to prune the box.
“It was massive.
“The parcel just fit inside the porch. Luckily the porch door was open as I don’t think it would have fitted through the letter box.
“I’ve put the box intact in my garage, it just about fitted in.”
Shocked Simon, who runs a horticulture business, added: “There must be half a tree in all that cardboard.
“The box was 6in to 8in deep and had brown paper stuffed inside it as well.

“No expense spared on the environment.”
Others who have purchased the product on Amazon voiced similar criticism of the superfluous packaging.
One said: “Packaging from Amazon was absolutely ridiculously huge and unnecessary.”
Another agreed: “Totally oversized packaging from Amazon!”
It comes after a woman who ordered a kitchen mop received the 3ft cleaner in a box big enough for a 50-in TV.
Elsewhere, a bemused shopper received her extendable microphone pole inside a 4ft by 2ft package and wrapped inside 30 ft of paper.
An Amazon spokesperson said: “We always aim to use the least amount of packaging possible when sending customer orders, and while we get it right the vast majority of the time, we are sorry that didn’t happen here.
“We are grateful that this was brought to our attention. We’re determined to continue to reduce instances of excess packaging even further in future.
“All paper bags, cardboard envelopes and cardboard boxes used by Amazon in Europe are 100% recyclable.”
