EASTER is just around the corner and many households will be planning to hop to their nearest supermarket to grab a Lindt Easter bunny.

The iconic treat is made from Swiss chocolate and is wrapped in gold foil, tied with a red ribbon collar and finished with a gold bell.

But many supermarkets and retailers have tried their hands at recreating the Lindt bunny and now have their own dupes.

We searched the shelves to find the closest matches on offer for the best price and value for money – here are the results.

Lindt Gold Bunny Milk Chocolate 100g

There isn’t anything quite like the traditional Lindt bunny and the gold packaging is just gorgeous.

The chocolate is lush and smooth and it’s safe to say it’s hard to beat.

However, in terms of price, the original costs more than any of the dupe bunnies that we tried, and while it tastes delicious, I just find the price tag hard to justify.

I picked up my bunny in Tesco as they are currently £3 with a Clubcard and £3.50 without.

The price of this chocolate treat is always changing during the Easter season, so it’s worth keeping an eye out in stores for a good deal.

Marks and Spencer’s Lindt bunny dupe is adorable

I expected big things from the M&S bunny and honestly I was not disappointed.

Of all the Easter bunnies I tried, I thought the packaging on this was one of the prettiest out there and it would make an adorable gift.

As for the chocolate, it was smooth and milky with the unmistakable feeling of quality you’d expect from M&S.

‘People are filling up trolleys’ – Tesco shoppers rushing to buy Cadbury bargain

I think it comes closest to the traditional Lindt bunny in terms of taste.

But unfortunately, it is still a little pricey for me and I think there are other dupes on the market that taste as good for far less.

The Sainsbury’s chocolate bunny is also beautifully packaged, almost rivalling M&S.

I can imagine this one being a popular choice for parents, who want to treat their children with an iconic gold bunny without the huge price tag.

But the actual chocolate is what lets the treat down the most. It just didn’t compare in taste to Lindt’s version or M&S’s bunny.

It was smooth, but I didn’t find myself desperate to go in for another bite.

However, the price tag is pretty reasonable, coming in at half the price of the Lindt original.

The Asda bunny looks cute, but it was a bit of a let down when I tasted it

Sadly, I was disappointed with Asda‘s bunny dupe as it just didn’t live up to my expectations in terms of taste.

The chocolate was quite bland and reminded me of the treats you get in a bargain advent calendar.

It just didn’t have the same indulgent, luxury taste or texture as Lindt or M&S’s bunnies.

I think there are better Easter rabbits on the market at a similar or better price.

Lidl’s Easter bunny was my winner

When I tasted the Lidl bunny dupe, it was love at first bite.

The chocolate was luxurious, but not so rich that you couldn’t eat the whole bunny in one go.

While it didn’t taste much like the Lindt original, I didn’t care because I actually thought it was better – and for a fraction of the price.

This bunny is actually bigger than most supermarkets’ versions, too, so it’s definitely my winner for taste, appearance and value.

Aldi’s Dairyfine Milk Chocolate Bunny 125g

  • £1.39 for 125g
  • Price per 100g: £1.11

Aldi’s chocolate bunny was also a top notch dupe

I was a bit put off the Aldi chocolate bunny at first glance as the packaging looked a bit messy and it felt quite cheap.

However, what it lacked in appearance it more than made up for in taste.

While it wasn’t at all similar to Lindt’s original, I personally preferred how it tasted.

It was rich and creamy and felt very indulgent, like I was eating a luxury product.

The chocolate itself was smooth and milky and it left a really pleasant aftertaste.

Like Lidl, you also get slightly more chocolate with Aldi’s product compared with Lindt and other major supermarkets, and for significantly less cash.

You pay just £1.11 per 100g, compared with £3.50 with Lindt.

Farmfoods’ Milk Chocolate Bunny 100g

Farmfoods bunny was the cheapest that we tested

Farmfoods bunny was the cheapest that we tested

Farmfoods‘ Easter offering was the cheapest that we tested, and honestly, I was pleasantly surprised.

I can imagine the shiny purple packaging appealing to kids and the 99p price tag being a welcome surprise for parents.

When I first opened the wrapping, I was hit with a delicious chocolate-y smell and upon my first taste, it was pretty flavourful.

But the chocolate left an aftertaste similar to that of basic cooking chocolate, and I realised it wasn’t quite as luxurious as some of the other supermarket dupes.

But if you’re looking for a cheap and cheerful treat, then Farmfoods’ bunny isn’t one to turn your nose up at.

Hotel Choclat's bunny was the most expensive of the bunch

Hotel Choclat’s bunny was the most expensive of the bunch

Hotel Chocolat’s bunny is the only one I tested that is 100% vegan and I was gobsmacked.

If I hadn’t known beforehand, there is no way I would have realised that the chocolate didn’t contain any milk or egg.

The chocolate itself is really rich and you wouldn’t need to eat a lot of it to feel full and satisfied.

It tasted more like dark chocolate than the milk chocolate Lindt bunny, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

While I was bowled over by the taste, the price tag is huge.

You do get an extra pot of chocolate buttons with the rabbit, I still think it’s hard to justify the hefty price tag.

The Thorntons bunny was adorable

This Thorntons bunny is made from milk chocolate with spots of white chocolate on it too.

It looks adorable and I think is a must-try for any true chocolate Easter bunny fans.

I did find the chocolate to be really rich and I think I could only manage a little bit at a time.

It also didn’t taste much like the Lindt bunny, but I can imagine it still being a much-loved alternative.

But I love the design and the price tag is pretty reasonable too.

Aldi is also selling a chocolate hazlenut bunny

As well as its milk chocolate bunny, Aldi is also selling a milk chocolate hazelnut rabbit among its Easter range.

While this bunny offers a totally different taste, it looks the most similar to the classic Lindt bunny.

It even has a little tag around its neck, similar to the bell worn by the original.

The bunny tastes just like Ferrero Rocher, which I was delighted about as I’m a huge fan of that chocolate.
