The dad-of-three couldn’t sleep all night as he anxiously awaited the results.

His wife, Roberta, said: “He was still up at 2.00am checking the Postcode Lottery website. I told him to calm down.”

When the lottery team finally knocked on his door the next morning, Henry couldn’t believe his luck and fell to his knees.

He threw away his ticket in shock after he realised he’d just hit the jackpot and secured an eye-watering amount of over £400,000.

Earlier, the teacher received a message that he’d also won £10 which he thought was all that he got.

But to his surprise, a bigger pot awaited him and he couldn’t hide his excitement.

Roberta was as equally shocked as she exclaimed “What”.

He said: “How do I use this to improve on my humanity? This is huge, this is too huge. Winning is winning, but this is life-transforming. It is just crazy.”

Although Henry plans to splash his newfound wealth on his dream holiday to Madeira, Portugal and Canada, he remains focused on helping others too.

He wanted to emphasise the work that the charities do, and expressed his gratitude that the Lottery helps those in need.

“I hope when I wake up tomorrow, I will still be able to say, ‘I’m me,’ and that this is real.

“Winning is good, but the charitable deeds that are part of People’s Postcode Lottery is much better,” he said.

How does the People’s Postcode Lottery work?

ACCORDING to the official website, players sign up with their postcode and pay £12 per month.

They are automatically entered into every draw and prizes are announced every day of the month.

Tickets play for prizes every day of the week – from Monday to Sunday, a ticket could win £1,000 each day in the Daily Prize.

Tickets could also win a jackpot of £30,000 in Saturday and Sunday’s Street Prize draws.

People’s Postcode Lottery also offer a £3 Million Postcode Millions draw each month – and your ticket plays for a share of a £3 Million cash prize fund.

Winners are notified by email, SMS message, mail or phonecall depending on the prize they win.

Jackpot winners are visited by the lottery team in person.

As Henry jets off on a family vacation to Canada which he’s always admired, he would be happy to learn that a local charity has also benefited from his win.

Thurrock Play Network – an organisation that makes play inclusive for everyone – received a generous £25,000 donation from Postcode Community Trust.

Next door from Henry, his neighbour, Leyla, has also secured a £411,000 win after an eerie message which spurred her to sign up.

The hard working mum from Tilbury in Essex is now planning on holidays for all the family, with New York and Turkey top of the list after the big win.
