SUPERMARKET shelves are piled high with Easter eggs of all shapes and sizes as the big day approaches.
Whether it’s Lindt or Cadbury, many of us have our go-to chocolate brands and hope to get the same egg from the Easter Bunny each year.
But different brands may offer more cocoa for your buck, so maybe it’s time to consider something new.
Lynsey Hope tried some eggs from best-selling brands to see how they stood up in a taste test.
The winner beat both Cadbury and Lindt, but it will set you back a tenner.
Here’s what happened:

Divine Chocolate
- £5, tesco.com
- £5.56 per 100g
I loved this vegan Easter egg with its great texture and smooth creaminess.
The chocolate has a lovely crisp snap and the raspberry taste is refreshing and unique.
It has great eco-credentials as it’s made using Fairtrade cocoa and sugar and no palm oil.

Tony’s Chocolonely Milk Chocolate Caramel and Sea Salt Easter Egg
- £10, waitrose.com
- £4.13 per 100g
Fans of Tony’s will be thrilled to know it has launched full-size Easter eggs for the first time this year.
I tried the milk caramel sea salt which was a flatter design than many but with their signature zigzag design across the shell.
It’s studded with caramel pieces and sea salt pieces which stop it from becoming too sweet and add a perfect balance to the creamy milk chocolate.
A plain milk chocolate version is available too, if you prefer.
Both come with five generously sized mini eggs in different flavours, including white chocolate raspberry and popping candy.

Terry’s Chocolate Orange Egg with Mini Eggs
- £3, asda.com
- £1.50 per 100g
If you struggle to stop at one segment of Terry’s Chocolate Orange, you will like this.
The milk chocolate in this egg is flavoured with real orange oil and it comes with a bag of delicious chocolate orange balls.
My only complaint is there weren’t more of them. Amazing value too.

Toblerone The Edgy Egg
- £10, ocado.com
- £3.36 per 100g
An exciting choice for Toblerone fanatics, who will surely love this egg.
Just like the brand’s original triangular bar this egg is made with honey and almond nougat pieces which give a lovely contrast to the velvety smooth chocolate to create an egg both adults and kids will love.
It has an eye-catching geometric shell and the brand hasn’t skimped on extras, with six mini Toblerone chocolates inside too. My winner.

Nestle Aero Chocolate Egg
- £3, asda.com
- £1.61 per 100g
For £3, this is a generous-sized egg with a hollow milk centre.
The Nestle choc is creamy and smooth, though I found it quite sweet.
It’s easy to eat with an attractive diamond pattern on the outside.
This egg also comes with a full-size bar which will bring joy to bubbly chocolate lovers.

Quality Street Incredible Egg
- £10, ocado.com
- £3.36 per 100g
Quality Street isn’t just for Christmas as this egg proves.
I adored the rich butterscotch aromas and cocoa flavours of this egg and the chewy pieces of fudge embedded in the shell were delicious and made it very moreish.
The box is attractive and fun and it makes you want to buy this egg – it’s big compared to others.
If that wasn’t enough to make you splash out a tenner on this rather special egg, it also comes with a bag of fudge and caramel Quality Street chocolates hidden inside. A real winner.

Nomo Free From Caramel Easter Egg and Bar
- £6.50, sainsburys.co.uk
- £4.39 per 100g
Free from dairy, gluten, egg and nuts, this egg comes with a gooey, caramel chocolate bar.
The chocolate is quite sweet but tastes slightly nutty and smells divine.
The bar is a great alternative to standard milk chocolate if are vegan or have intolerances.
This ticks all the difficult boxes as well as tasting delicious.

Cadbury Mini Eggs Giant Chocolate Gift Box Easter Egg
- £4.50, asda.com
- £1.94 per 100g
No surprises here, but it’s the egg my kids were fighting to try. The standard Cadbury shell is delicious.
It just melts in the mouth as you eat it. This box also comes with two little bags of mini eggs.
It’s second best on value (beaten only by Terry’s) for the price of 100g of chocolate.

Thorntons Continental Milk Chocolate Egg
- £10, thorntons.com
- £3.89 per 100g
This Thorntons‘ egg feels quite luxurious and is nicely packaged.
The milk chocolate shell is smooth and very sweet.
The outside is decorated with swirls of dark and white chocolate which don’t add much to the taste, but they look pretty.
There’s a box of eight continental chocolates included, including the alpine log, which is my all-time nutty favourite.

Lindt Gold Bunny Salted Caramel Egg
- £10, lindt.co.uk
- £5.13 per 100g
You can’t go far wrong with Lindt on Easter Sunday.
Brand new for 2024 is the Lindt gold bunny salted caramel egg.
It’s a creamy milk chocolate egg with a new salted caramel bunny.
The bunny is still made of rich and creamy milk chocolate but this one is studded with salted caramel pieces.
