THERE’S an iPhone pop-up alert that you should never turn off – and certainly don’t ignore.

In fact it’s so important for your health that some users are physically unable to turn it off.

Your iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch all have a special feature that tracks how loud your music is.

And it warns you if you’re listening to music too loudly generally.

This is designed to protect you from sound that would permanently affect your hearing.

“Listening to audio on your headphones too loud for too long can damage your hearing,” Apple explained.

“Headphone Notifications let you know if your audio exposure has been loud enough for long enough to affect your hearing – for example, over 80 decibels (dB) for 40 hours total within the last 7 days.”

If you’re wearing headphones, your iPhone can warn you when you’ve “exceeded 100% of your 7-day exposure limit”.

And when you receive the notification, you’ll be prompted to turn down the volume.

“After receiving a notification, the next time you plug in your headphones or connect them via Bluetooth, your volume will be automatically set to a lower level.

Apple’s iPhone 14 Pro has a life-saving new feature

In some countries and regions, it’s impossible to turn the notifications.

Apple says this is “due to regulations and safety standards”.

But some users can turn it off in Settings > Sounds & Haptics > Headphone Safety – even though it’s potentially dangerous to do so.

Apple fans were urging iPhone owners not to meddle with the feature or ignore it.

One linked to a tinnitus page and wrote: “If you think warning notifications are annoying, wait until you get the endless ringing in your ear.”

Another said: “Always wanted to rid the notification, always having volume at full when working out, commuting etc.

“Now I have tinnitus and am severely uncomfortable the vast majority of the time.
