Martin used the tweet as an example of the benefits of his rebooking trick.

This involves checking if your booking for something like parking or a hotel room is cheaper on the day of your journey compared to when you booked it.

Sylvaine wrote: “I followed your tips on car rentals and booked for July holidays in the USA with cancellation up to 48 hours before.

“Checked back a couple of weeks ago and found the identical car and rental company on the same website at half the original price.

“I saved over £600, thank you.”

Martin explained that companies often put listings back online for lower prices closer to the departure date.

However, he warned that you should only try this trick within your free cancellation period, rather than cutting into your discount with fees.

It comes after the personal finance guru issued an urgent warning to Brits travelling in Europe this summer.

Meanwhile, one man shared how one of Martin’s tips helped him save £2,000 on his holiday.

Martin’s show returned tonight for the second of a two-part special series, this time focussing on summer holiday tips.

As well as travel insurance, he advised viewers on the best debit and credit cards to use both in and outside of the EU and how to get the best exchange rates.

The show will return for a full series in October.
