ONE SAVVY shopper managed to save over £200 on her food shop by taking a trip to the wholesalers instead of the supermarket.

Kirstie Bristow, from Millbrook, Cornwall, ditched the quick dash around the grocery store in favour of buying things in bulk, and the simple swap managed to save her hundreds of pounds.

The savvy shopper filled her boot with over £200 worth of food that she got for just £75

The mum of two told The Sun that she wants her money to go further, just like every other Brit pinching their pockets as the cost of food, and more, continues to soar.

She said: “We have a Rogers Wholesale shop near-ish to us.

“They sell wholesale boxes of food that is either close to, or past it’s Best Before date and the cheaper prices help us massively with our shopping budget.”

During a recent trip to the Plymouth branch of the wholesaler store, Kirstie managed to load her car boot with bargains.

She snaffled away everything from biscuits, to pasta, protein bars, fruit and fibre cereal, and tins of fruit.

But in total the savvy shopper only spent £75.

Kirstie said: “I worked out how much I would have spent either in the supermarket or online and my total would have been £280.60!

“It means I’ve saved over £205.”

Of course, when it comes to wholesale products, everything is bigger – that means you might pick up over 1,000 teabags in one bulk bag compared to just 100 from the box on the supermarket shelf.

So you only make a saving if you were planning on buying that much anyway – otherwise you could end up going over budget and have nowhere to store all the bulk items.

At the store Kirstie visited, items were close to their sell-by date too – so they were still safe to buy, but cheaper to pick up, much like supermarket yellow sticker bargains.

Kirstie shared her genius stocking-up hack online with other avid bargain hunters also looking to save any pennies they can.

Her post on Facebook page Reduce your Supermarket Spend managed to rack up 448 likes and over 200 comments from shoppers applauding her find.

She said: “We all need to learn how to save money at this moment in time, so I was hoping my hack would help others too!”

Other users joined in with their own thoughts.

One said: “The wholesalers are a brilliant place to save money and we’ve never had a problem with anything we have bought.”

Another said: “We have one of those. I buy rice, pasta, tinned stuff. It’s fab.”

Meanwhile, a third said: “You’re so lucky. I spend a fortune on protein bars and things like that.”
