Her family kept getting bills between $250-$300 (£131-£157) for the past eight years across four different homes.

She was therefore determined to find out why her bill suddenly went up to $550 (£288).

After working out with her partner, the mum found out her daughter’s long showers were to blame, as it caused the electrical hot water system to work overtime.

The solution was simple. All Kirstie had to do was to set a 10-minute time limit for all showers.

And just like that, her electricity bill went back down to $198 (£103) the next time.

Sharing her experience on a Facebook group, she urged others to cut back on their shower time to combat the rising cost of living.

“I nearly died when our last bill came in at just over $550. I called, and it wasn’t an estimate,” the mum revealed.

“My partner mentioned my daughter had been having longer showers – but I honestly hadn’t noticed, what’s a few extra minutes?’

Another savvy woman slashed her energy bill with a common item that costs just £30.

Lydia Sear, 23, has gone viral with the hack which she says is a cheap way to keep your house warm this winter, especially amid the cost-of-living crisis.

The London woman has revealed how she stuffed a foam product she brought on Amazon into the cracks in her floorboards to stop draughts coming into her home.

Floorboards are known as one of the four energy-guzzling hotspots in a house, and stopping cold air creeping in could save you up to £180.

Lydia was aware her home’s floorboards were playing a part in her rising energy bill, so she went looking for a solution – then shared it to TikTok.
