THE tech guru behind MySpace traded the social media limelight for a quiet life after becoming a multi-millionaire at the age of 35.

Tom Anderson has now become a guru of a different kind, using his industry winnings to travel the world and explore his spirituality.

Anderson sold MySpace in 2005 for an eyewatering $580million (£455million) to Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp, which turned it into a music and entertainment site.

While Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and X (formerly Twitter) owner Elon Musk prepare for a physical brawl under the media spotlight, Anderson has respectively bowed out of the industry.

The social media veteran still has a stake in what’s going on in the tech world, investing in Musk’s SpaceX and artificial intelligence (AI), but remains firmly on the sidelines.

Despite setting up the most popular social network of the 2000s, the self proclaimed “former 1st friend” is somewhat of a digital recluse.

Under his Instagram username @myspacetom, he posts pictures of his photography from all over the world, but hasn’t done so on since 2019.

We’re talking Indonesia, Singapore, Hawaii, China, Scotland and anywhere in between.

He’s not much of the selfie type, mostly staying behind the camera than in front of it.

But he will upload the occasional snap on his Instagram Story regarding what he’s up to, be it chilling with his dog or building new stairs for his so-called ‘meditation deck’.

Anderson got into photography was the result of a trip to popular US festival Burning Man, he told Influencive.

“My passion for photography is what keeps me travelling,” said Anderson.

“I have multiple homes in multiple cities, but I’m not satisfied just staying where I’m comfortable. I want to keep creating.

“I wasn’t taking photography all that seriously, I just wanted to document a wild scene.

“But when I loaded the photos onto my computer, I was hooked.

“I knew I wanted to capture more scenes around the world.”

It seems Anderson is simply doing what anyone in their right mind would do after essentially winning the business idea lottery.
