AN energy customer got the shock of her life when she saw her latest bill — for nearly £2billion.
Brenda McCossick was told she and her daughter, 15, had used £1,960,083,072 on gas and electricity in two weeks.
The mum of three usually spends around £50 a month for the three-bed detached where she has lived for 20 years.
But after logging into the Shell Energy app she said: “I knew the amount is going up given the rise of energy bills but I couldn’t believe it!
“It must be a record for the biggest energy bill ever.
“I usually turn off the lights when we leave a room and make sure we are as eco-friendly as possible so I knew it couldn’t be right.”
Brenda, 50, a call handler for Edinburgh Police, added: “Shell told me it was a fault with the app, and apologised.
“I was just worried that regardless of it being ridiculous that they’d still try and take as much money out of my account as possible and leave me with no money.”
Shell Energy have since reviewed the March bill for Brenda, of Bathgate, West Lothian, and reduced it to a more manageable £46.
