The 21-year-old showed to her over 2,000 followers on the viral video app how she’d tested out the bargain trick at posh shop John Lewis.

The store isn’t normally known for its bargain prices, but it can be a destination for Christmas shoppers looking for the perfect present around this time of year.

But with the big day right around the corner, other young mums on a budget might consider cashing in at the pricey store for upmarket gifts – especially if they can get them at a fraction of the price with the handy hack.

The catch is, you have to look for products that might have seen better days, and might not be in the most pristine condition.

Charlie said in the video: “If you see a damaged product on the shelf, take it to the checkout and ask for a discount.”

The trick, which is essentially haggling down the price, might seem simple enough, but it’s often overlooked by bargain hunters when they’re seeking out the best buy.

Using the haggling hack though, Charlie managed to bag a brand new Snuggle baby bath for £6.73 which should have been £22.

It means that she managed to save £15.27 on the full price, or just under 70%.

The baby bath had a slight mark on the grey rubber inside tab, so cashiers at the store placed a local markdown discount on it at the checkout.

It’s not necessarily a guaranteed way to secure a discount because the staff could refuse to shave off any pennies for you, but it’s always worth the ask.

In the audio that plays over the top of the 15 second clip the narrator says: “Show me the life hack that you randomly saw one day that is now an unconscious standard practice in your life.”

It’s a “life hack” that other money moguls swear by too.

Experts at Comparethemarket have said: “Haggling can pay.

“If you’re shopping online, you can do it through live chat. Always have a price in mind and be prepared to walk away if you can’t get what you want.”

We also asked John Lewis for comment, and if shoppers could expect more bargain opportunities in store, and will update this story once we know more.
