YOUR iPhone has a powerful trick that can help you get off to sleep – and even just relax.

It’s tucked away so deep in the iPhone Settings app that you can very easily miss it.

The feature is called Background Sounds and will play soothing noises from a selection of options, including Rain and Ocean.

An iPhone owner shared the feature in a Reddit post that has earned over 1,000 “upvotes.”

“I can’t believe it took me this long to find this,” they said.

“The need to open YouTube for rain sounds is now GONE. When did they add this?!”

“This feature is what helped me fall asleep on a flight for the very first time. I got three hours sleep on a plane, three precious hours,” another cheered.

And one added, “Lately, this is the only way I can sleep at home.”

There are several ways to customize the feature.

For a start, you can adjust the volume inside your settings independent of your main device volume.

You can also allow Background Sounds for when media is playing, and adjust the volume specifically for that scenario too.

And there’s an additional option to Stop Sounds When Locked, which you can toggle in the Settings menu.

This will shut the feature off when you lock your iPhone.

Lastly, you’ll need to choose a sound from the following list:

  • Balanced Noise
  • Bright Noise
  • Dark Noise
  • Ocean
  • Rain
  • Stream

You can change them at any time.

SOUND ON!

There are two clever ways to enable the feature.

The first is to add it to your Control Center.

That’s the quick menu you can access by swiping down from the top-right corner of your screen on iPhone’s with Face ID or by swiping up from the bottom on others.

To edit it, go to Settings > Control Center and make sure that Hearing is added.

You can then tap the Hearing icon (it looks like an ear) in your Control Center to activate Background Sounds.

But there’s an even faster way to turn Background Sounds on.

You can also go to Settings > Accessibility > Accessibility Shortcuts > Background Sounds.

That allows you to triple-click the Side Button on your iPhone to turn Background Sounds on or off.
