A HUGE supermarket chain is opening new stores alongside a bargain brand.
Iceland has teamed up with Costcutter to open its first “Iceland Local”.

Iceland Local is a new concept launched to offer shoppers a convenience-style version of the frozen brand.
The supermarket giant and Costcutter opened the first store on March 31 at a Texaco garage in Wolverhampton.
Customers can purchase various items as well as pay for petrol at the till.
The majority of the products will be supplied by Costcutter but there will also be a large chunk of frozen items from Iceland.
But the supermarket said it has plans to open more local stores in the “months ahead”.
We have asked how many and where but Iceland wouldn’t provide any more information for now.
Justin Addison, international & wholesale director at Iceland Foods, said: “Iceland Local will make our unique range of frozen, chilled, fresh and grocery products available to customers in a completely new type of location, complementing our 1,000 company-owned Iceland and The Food Warehouse stores on the nation’s high streets and retail parks.
“Iceland Local gives customers an exciting new opportunity to pick up our food while they are refuelling, and we already have plans to roll out the concept with further openings in the months ahead.”

It comes after the frozen supermarket closed half a dozen stores across the UK in February and March.
The stores and their closure dates are listed below:
- Mill Lane, Bromsgrove – February 25
- Chineham Shopping Centre, Basingstoke – February 25
- White Rose Centre, Rhyl – March 14
- South Street, Newport, Isle of Wight – March 25
- St Catherine’s Place, Bedminster, Bristol – March 25
- Deiniol Centre, Bangor – March 27
Across Iceland and The Food Warehouse, the chain has nearly 1,000 UK stores.
Iceland isn’t the only retailer to open (and close) stores recently.
Bargain shop B&M will be cutting the ribbon on six stores in the coming weeks after closing several this year.
The discounter has revealed to The Sun that it will be opening three brand new shops in May, as well as relaunching three more following expansions.
It comes following the closure and relocation of four stores last month.
