Under the Current Account Switch Service it’s easy to do and doesn’t take long at all.

Often you can see the money enter your (new) account in the space of just a month too.

First Direct has the top reward to cash-in on right now.

It gives new customers £150 for switching over to its banking services.

But to qualify, you can’t have ever had any First Direct account or opened a current account with its sister bank HSBC since January 2019.

And there are a couple of other steps you have to follow to cash-in too.

Once you’ve opened an account with the bank, you’ll need to switch from another current account that’s not First Direct or HSBC, and pay in at least £1,000 – and you’ve only got three months to do it.

The good news is that the offer doesn’t appear to have a deadline, so you can take your time considering if jumping ship to the new account is worth the reward.

We have contacted First Direct to confirm when this deal ends.

But, currently, the £150 up for grabs is the highest switching reward on offer right now, though that doesn’t mean it’s the only one.

Halifax is currently offering £125 if you move to its Reward account.

But you have only HOURS left to redeem as the reward ends today.

If you make a switch after May 9 you won’t be eligible for the free cash, says Halifax.

You also won’t get your hands on it if you move to any other Halifax account, or if you’ve already had cashback for switching to Halifax since April 2020.

Keep in mind you’ll need to be paying in at least £1,500 a month, otherwise there’s a £3 monthly fee too.

But should you miss today’s tight deadline, Nationwide is also offering an up to £125 switching bonus when you move to its FlexPlus, FlexDirect or FlexAccount account.

There’s no deadline to get started on the building society’s switching offer, so you have a little longer to make your mind up.

If you’re not yet a Nationwide member, you could get £100, and if you’re already a member, you could get the top £125.

There’s no minimum you have to pay in though, just make the switch in under 60 days of applying.

Before you take on any of the switches though, make sure you check the bank suits the criteria you are after.

It’s a good idea to have a shop around and weigh up perks like having a branch nearby, or overdraft limits that suit your needs, and more.

You might even want to take into consideration spells of recent outages, as plenty of customers have struggled with online services when their provider came up against problems.
