LOOKING for a posh frock for a special festive party or New Year’s Eve event?

Rather than splashing out on a dress you might not wear again, you can save cash by renting one instead.

Here are three services worth knowing about . . .

JOHN LEWIS: You can hire an outfit from as little as £20 with the store’s rental service, with at least 35 designer brands on offer, including high-end labels such as Whistles and & Other Stories.

As well as dresses, the collection includes trousers, tops and jackets.

You can rent pieces for between four and 30 days and they will be delivered to your door.

When finished, simply return the item and the store takes care of dry cleaning.

BY ROTATION: This app allows anyone to rent out their clothes, bags, belts and other accessories.

Users set their own prices and details such as minimum rental periods and postage costs.

A quick browse showed a velvet jumpsuit from House Of CB worth £179 that you can rent from £5.

And Lidl is also renting out its Christmas jumpers until December 31 through the site, at a cost of £2 a day.

The lenders are responsible for cleaning items so you don’t need to worry about that — but they may add a laundry fee which you should look out for.

In the event of damage or loss, the app says it steps in to resolve conflicts between lenders and renters.

H&M: The high street chain rents out some of its selected collections, including designer collaborations.

For example, you can currently rent the sold-out H&M Rabanne range, plus other top-end dresses, accessories and shoes.

The drawback — you will first need to book an appointment with a personal stylist at its Regent Street store in central London.

The standard rental period is seven days and you can expect to pay somewhere between £20 and £40.
