How to transfer WhatsApp data from Android to iPhone
When transferring your data from one phone to another, you can transfer your account information, profile photo, chats, group chats, chat history, media and settings.
However, you cannot transfer your call history or display name.
When transferring your WhatsApp data from an Android to and iPhone, you need to make sure of a few things first.
These are:
- Download the Move to iOS app on your Android phone
- Use the same phone number on your new device as you did on your old one
- Make sure your iPhone is factory new or else factory reset
- Both devices should be connected to the same Wi-Fi network
Now you are ready to transfer your WhatsApp data.
To do so:
- Open the Move to iOS app on your Android phone and follow the on-screen prompts.
- A code will display on your iPhone.
- When it is indicated, enter the code on your Android phone.
- Tap Continue and follow the on-screen prompts.
- Select WhatsApp on the Transfer Data screen.
- Tap START on your Android phone. At this stage, Whatsapp is preparing the data to transfer. Once it does so, you’ll be signed out of WhatsApp on Android.
- Tap NEXT to return to the Move to iOS app.
- Tap CONTINUE to transfer the data from your Android to your iPhone and wait for the app to confirm that the transfer is complete.
- Install the latest version of WhatsApp on your iPhone.
- Open WhatsApp and log in using the phone number you had on the Android.
- Tap Start when indicated and allow the process to complete.
- Finish the activation process and you should find all your chats once ready.
WhatsApp warn that you should follow the above steps rather than just other data migration apps.

Some housekeeping rules before you get started:
- Make sure you’re using the same phone number on both devices
- Have a USB-C to Lightning cable handy
- Make sure that your Android phone is factory new or factory reset
- Make sure that the Android device is either Samsung, Google Pixel or has Android 12 or above
Now you are ready to transfer some data.
To do so:
- On your Android, go through the New Device Setup.
- Tap Skip restoring data to the device when it asks you to.
- Tap Finish setting up your Pixel or Android OS 12 device in your notifications.
- Now, connect the devices by cable on “Copy apps and data.”
- Tap Trust if the iPhone warning appears.
- Proceed through copying screens.
- Keep the iPhone unlocked during the transfer.
- Use the iPhone camera app to scan the QR code when prompted and open WhatsApp iOS to export data.
- Once the transfer is finished, you can disconnect the cable.
- Now open WhatsApp on your Android and log on using the same old number you once used on your iPhone
- Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the set up and once complete, you should find your chats.
