Switching banks can get you up to £150 in cash

Even better, switching banks is really easy, thanks to the switching guarantee, which means that all your direct debits and standing orders can be swapped over with no effort on your part.

One word of caution, a signing up bonus isn’t the only thing worth thinking about, so it’s worth researching properly before you take the plunge.

You’ll want to consider whether you can get the same overdraft and what rate you’ll get, interest on accounts in credit, associated savings accounts and customer service scores.

You also need to check the terms and conditions because many banks will say you need to pay in a certain amount each month or have some direct debits set up to qualify for your bonus.

Check fees as well, as some banks will charge you money each month if you sign up to one of their accounts with perks.

But if you’re ready for a change then the signing bonus is definitely a factor worth considering.

Here’s the full list of banks offering switching bonuses at the moment and what you need to know before you sign up.

How to switch bank accounts

If you’ve picked an account and are ready to switch, here’s our step-by-step guide to getting started.

  1. Switching is easy. Under the switching service, swapping banks should take seven working days. That includes all your payments, direct debits and standing orders being moved too. Just open your new account and then ask your new provider to close your old account using the switch service.
  2. Make sure you are eligible. Most accounts have certain requirements, such as paying in a minimum amount of cash each month.
  3. Watch your overdraft. Check your new bank will offer you the same limit — and does not have higher costs for using it.
