The advert, known as The Beginner, is aimed at spreading awareness of the care system.

In previous years, it was thought to have spent around £1million on the cost of making the 90-second clip, including the concept, filming, actors, staff, locations and any editing.

In addition, John Lewis is rumoured to have spent between £5million and £6million promoting it – with most of the money going on TV slots.

This year, John Lewis bosses said that they have been “more cost conscious” due to the ongoing cost of living crisis.

They chose to film the ad in the UK, using British actors and not big name celebs and the song artist is a relatively unknown US singer.

Last year, the retailer was rumoured to spend £800,000 on making the ad and then £5million on promoting it.
