Sud opened in 2015 under the name Sugo Pasta Kitchen, and has outlets in Ancoats, Altrincham, Sale and central Manchester.

The chain serves up southern Italian classics like Trofie with Broccolini, Orecchiette House Sugo, ‘Nduja Wings and Arancino.

But the team behind Sugo have confirmed that a new restaurant is in the works.

They said: “When we started in 2015 as Sugo Pasta Kitchen, we could sell you an epic plate of pasta for £9-13.

“We’ve been driven by market conditions, and have tried and mulled over a few iterations of SUD.

“But we don’t feel they’re the best way we can serve our loyal and valued customers and so we have made the decision to close.

“We’ll be keeping our current team and reopening our new pasta kitchen in all four of our locations.

“We look forward to sharing our next chapter.”

Posting on Facebook, Sugo added: “There’s no going back from this decision.

“You have 6 weeks to fill your boots with the dishes you’ve chosen before they disappear from the face of the planet, never to be seen or cooked again.

“Then the next chapter begins.”

Many of the chain’s fans took to social media to voice their disappointment.

One said: “Very dramatic! Love your food!”

Another said: “This sounds horrific.”

A branch of a family favourite restaurant is closing down – with rumours swirling over its “much better” replacement”.
