Honda has revealed its new mid-size SUV which is set to rival Toyota’s popular RAV4.

The all-new CR-V is set to hit the roads later this year with four trim levels available, including a top-tier e:HEV hybrid version.

Most of the range will be powered by a 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with a lighter CVT automatic while the e:HEV will feature a two-litre petrol engine and two-motor hybrid system.

The new CR-V will be available in five and seven-seat layouts as well as front or all-wheel drive.

Honda hasn’t yet revealed power or fuel use figures for its new SUV but in smaller cars the turbo engine generated 131kW/240Nm while the hybrid was 135kW/315Nm.

The CR-V will be available in six colours – Platinum White, Lunar Silver, Meteoroid Grey, Ignite Red, Crystal Black and the new Canyon River Blue.

Honda Australia boss, Carolyn McMahon, noted the popular hybrid option will see more customers choose a CR-V.

‘Honda Australia is extremely excited to be launching the all-new CR-V to the Australian market, as this nameplate has been a consumer favourite since its introduction to the Australian Market 26 years ago,’ she said.

‘This next generation CR-V has evolved with family needs and offers everything our customers love about the outgoing model and more, including increased cabin space, five and seven seating options, 2WD and AWD drive systems and appealing drive-ability across the range’.

Prices for the new CR-V (above), set to launch on September 1, start at $44,500 drive-away

However, the suite of upgrades does come with a higher price tag.

Prices for the new CR-V start at $44,500 drive-away, $5,600 than the previous model, and reach $59,900.

It’s more expensive than the Toyota RAV4, which is priced between $39,760 and $57,530.

Honda will reveal prices and full local specification closer to the car’s launch date on September 1.
