FridgeCam, by consumer brand Smarter, takes a photo when you close your fridge door and sends it to your iPhone or Android phone.

Users can reduce food waste with the best-before tracker, which has the camera keep an eye on expiry dates for them.

The gadget then reminds you to use certain products in time.

FridgeCam will automatically add used or expired items to your shopping basket which is then pre-populated next time you shop online.

The food tracking camera is suitable for all fridges and is currently available on Amazon for £12.99.

The device can fetch more than £80.00 at other retailers.

The mount that the product comes with means it can be retrofitted to any fridge.

All users need to set it up is Wi-Fi access and a compatible iOS or Android device.

One happy customer said: “As someone who does a lot of on call emergency work I find this camera really useful. You always know what’s in the fridge, you can easily check wherever you are.

“This is probably won’t be for everyone and if you are expecting something miraculous it isn’t, it won’t make the salad for you!

“However it is a great way to keep track of what is in your fridge and helps save wasting food or over buying.”

Others have suggested it’s important to charge the webcam via the USB port provided for at least six hours before fitting it, to make sure it all runs smoothly.

Having a strong Wi-Fi network is also important, according to the reviews, as weak signals may not be able to get through metal fridge enough for the device to work.
