To avoid disappointment, use the retailer’s store locator to find out what time your local branch is opening and closing in December and early January.

The store locator is usually updated to include special opening times for any bank holidays.

For example, Home Bargains in Orpington, Kent, closes on Boxing Day, and operates reduced opening hours on December 27.

Meanwhile, the store in Riverside Retail Park, Nottingham, also closes on Boxing Day and runs reduced opening hours on December 27.

Both branches also shut on New Year’s Day.

Which shops are closed over the Christmas bank holiday?

Retailers’ opening hours vary over the Christmas bank holiday, but the vast majority open as usual.

Most supermarkets and large high street chains have store locators on their website which you can use to find the opening hours for your nearest branch.

In most cases, you just have to enter your postcode into the search bar and it will tell you what time that store is open and closed.

Meanwhile, you can expect banks to stay shut and there likely won’t be any post or deliveries.
