OVER 750,000 Brits have received a text from HMRC notifying them of the cost of living payment.

Those on tax credits and no other low income benefit should have received the message on Friday.

It told them their £300 cost of living payment will be paid out automatically between November 10 and 19.

Friday’s text is just a notification and no money is due to be paid out just yet.

But eligible customers are being warned of scams simulating the text.

HMRC will never ask for any personal or financial details in the message and you never have to reply to them.

If you are asked to, it could be a scam.

If you are a tax credits customer but haven’t received the text message, check your mobile number is up to date with HMRC.

You can do this online by searching for ‘HMRC services’ on GOV.UK.

Those on Universal Credit, JSA, ESA, Income Support and Pension Credit are currently receiving their £300.

Payments for those claimants began on October 31 and will continue until November 19.

Some Brits could receive up to five payments to help with the cost of living if you’re getting certain benefits or tax credits.

The next payment, £299, will be paid out to most eligible customers next spring.

Receiving the SMS, or a previous cost of living payment, doesn’t guarantee a customer will be eligible for this or future payments.

If you’re getting both Child Tax Credit and Working Tax Credit, you will receive a cost of living Payment for Child Tax Credit only.

This is paid by HMRC.

If you’re getting tax credits from HMRC and a low income benefit from DWP, you cannot get a Cost of Living Payment from both HMRC and DWP.

You will usually be paid by DWP only.
