A HISTORIC three-bedroom home is being given away for FREE – but penny pinchers have been warned there’s a huge catch.

Whoever takes on the property in Lincoln, Kansas, will have to move the entire house to another location as the plot is set to be used by the hospital across the street.

But rather than demolish the home – which has stood on 602 N 2nd Street since 1910 – the Lincoln County Hospital is giving it away, providing the new owner can shift it elsewhere.

Although it looks a little worse for wear from the outside, the listing states it is “is in MUCH better condition than the street view would suggest”.

Lincoln County Economic Development Foundation has secured £22,000 ($30,000) in grant funding to help with the relocation and rehabilitation within the local area.

There are also several free vacant plots available in town that could be appropriate locations to move the house – meaning both the building and land would cost nothing.

The property has 2,023sq ft of space set across two floors – including a large living room with fireplace, parlour, dining room, kitchen and bathroom on the ground floor.

It also features a wooden staircase leading to three large bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs.

The listing reads: “The entire house has enough woodwork to make anyone swoon with wood floors and all oak and pine trim is in original condition.

“The house is solid and has been occupied up until a few years ago.

“A tour of the interior would prove the house is far from requiring demolition.

“The biggest issue is with the existing stone foundation which would be solved with the house moved to another location and placed on a new foundation.

“The exterior needs work but a new owner could still live in the house and tackle exterior improvements in phases if needed.”

If the house is not moved by the end of this year, it will likely be demolished.

The committee working on the sale of the house would like to find a new owner soon to allow the new foundations to be built and arrangements to be made before time runs out.

Although the building and land will be available free of charge, the new owners will need to consider the costs of moving and upgrading the house, which is expected to be at least £144,000 ($150,000).
